Virginia Ranks 21st in Nation in Total Taxes Paid

When federal taxes are added to state and local taxes, the annual ranking by the Tax Foundation puts Virginia 21st in the nation. Virginians pay 8.9% of their total income in state and local taxes (national average is 9.7%) and 29.0% of their total income in federal taxes (national average is 30.0%.
